Phew! Through With Wu!

As most of you know, today Jason Wu released his diffusion collection to select stores of the popular chain, Target! Very simple, yet absolutely lovely, textiles and silhouettes made this collection possible; full skirted dresses, pleated skirts, button-up, silk-like blouses, and rayon tees. Personally, I feel like this is one of the VERY few designer-Target collaborations where the clothing looks the same in real life as it does in the look books.

I congratulate Wu on this collection, I fell in love with each piece. I also commend his sizing, most items ran slightly larger if not true to size. I even came across a size 14 skirt laying on a rack! Not many designers cater to such body types, especially when releasing a diffused line to middle America. I was also pleasantly surprised with how prepared Target was for eager shoppers. The 64 billion dollar chain must have learned from the Missoni disaster of 2011. There was talk of certain stores supplying replenishment, and the collection was immensely smaller compared to Missonis 400 piece collection that carried not only women’s accessories and clothing, but home goods, children’s clothing, shoes, and menswear. I had my assumptions from the beginning that Jason Wu wouldn’t be as crazy because of the quantity differences, and the fact that Wu is a fresh designer; where as Missoni is an easy designer to spot.

A friend and I waited close to the door as the line of over a hundred eager shoppers were prompted of the only two rules: no running, and no screaming. As I realized my only two plans of action were foiled, I could hear terror in the Target Mans voice. Fifteen of the longest minutes on earth passed and we were finally let in! I skip-walked to the right of the store (originally from Arizona, I’ve seen many targets in my day, I know the floor plan) and I could see the striped red, blue and white pieces. My friend and I already decided to split up and grab two of everything we saw. Considering that I am as tall as the racks, it was easy to see what I was swiping out of others’ reach. We ended up with a cart-full of items and women flocked to us like hawks! After fighting back the groups with, “no we don’t want to trade”, “I guess you can see the quality of this trench”, and “No I only have one large in this!”, we divided everything up and walked away with about five items each.

I managed to get my hands on my most coveted pieces (except that freakin cat scarf!) The black pleated skirt, the floral pleated skirt, the black clutch with a lace overlay, the white dress with the black peek a boo tulle, and the pink and yellow striped shift dress everyone was throwing up over. Overall, I found myself very happy with the collection and the items I found. xx
